The image shows a single nerve cell in the brain of the tobacco hawkmoth - in the area responsible for initial processing of scent information. Tobacco hawkmoths have an extremely sensitive sense of smell; they can perceive individual scent molecules. In the picture, the central appendix of the cell with its fine extensions appears as a tree-like structure.
