The fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) is frequently used in research and probably one of the best-researched creatures on our planet by now. Like all other insects, fruit flies have no eyelids. To prevent dust or dirt from attaching to the eye, there are tiny bristles between the individual, hexagonally shaped eyes.
