The photograph shows Dr. mult. Albert Hofmann, the now 100-year-old discoverer of LSD and developer of the successful drugs Methergine, Hydergine and Dihydergot. More than most scientists, Hofmann represents the combination of fascination and research. More than most scientists, he has also demonstrated this combination in his books.
