Weaver ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) are veritable adhesion champions: They can hold loads of up to 100 times their own body weight while maneuvering mirror-smooth surfaces upside down. This is possible due to special adhesion organs on their feet - soft "cushions" that can be turned out via a muscle. A small amount of liquid between the adhesion organ and the surface facilitates contact and enables the ant to hold on to smooth surfaces, too.
